Wondering how to make THC capsules? You’ve found the right post!
THC pills are a capsule filled with some type of cannabis product, usually mixed with oil to make it easier to swallow down. There are many benefits to making your own cannabis capsules or canna caps.
This article will cover what cannabis is, the benefits of using THC pills, as well so how to make cannabis capsules.

What is Cannabis?
Cannabis is a natural plant that has been used for thousands of years. Cannabis can come in many different forms, including marijuana or hemp.
Marijuana is the plant’s dried flowers and leaves, while hemp is the cannabis that was cultivated to be used in industrial products like clothing and paper.
Cannabis is a plant that comes with several properties which could be useful in relieving pain as well as aiding people who suffer from anxiety or depression.
Some strains are high on THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), which means it has a high amount of psychoactive properties.
Other strains contain higher amounts of CBD (cannabidiol), which have more medicinal effects without that same “high” feeling.

What Are Cannabis Capsules?
Cannabis capsules are soft gel/hard-gel or vegetarian capsules that contain THC or CBD and are often used for medical purposes.
These marijuana pills or cannabis caps are timed-released, meaning the effects of the THC or CBD will be felt over a long period of time.
While filling capsules takes time, making your own capsules means you’re in control of the nutrition serving. But other benefits exist.
There are many benefits to using cannabis capsules, such as dosage control, swallowing fewer pills, decreased side effects from taking too high of a dosage, and prevention against rapidly aging when swallowing cannabis resin.
Filling caps, THC pills, or THC capsules that can be used to treat many conditions is rewarding. But it’s not as rewarding as the additional relief this offers over dried cannabis, including:
- Chronic pain (acute, chronic)
- Anxiety disorders
- Seizures/ Epilepsy (Dravet syndrome)
- Cluster headaches and migraine
- headaches.
- Compulsive overeating,
- irritable bowel syndrome,
- nausea from chemotherapy
- Glaucoma,
- inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s and
- Ulcerative colitis),
- neuropathic pain (spinal cord injury)
The use of THC pills is one of the safest delivery methods for avoiding overdosing on cannabis. This is probably why the cannabis community loves making capsules with the remaining liquid in their extract bottles!
Be sure to talk with your doctor before starting any new regimen or use prescription medications, especially if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, as THC pills can be especially harmful during pregnancy.
Also, remember that using cannabis is not approved by the FDA and may have different side effects than what you’ve read in a magazine.

What is Full Extract Cannabis Oil?
Full extract cannabis oil is a cannabis extract that has been processed to contain the maximum amount of THC possible.
The term refers to concentrates such as hash, shatter, wax, and more. These extracts are made by extracting the compounds found in marijuana-using various solvents like butane or CO2.
This process removes the plant material while leaving behind only the chemicals and compounds which provide unique benefits for medical use.
Cannabis oil can be used for vaping or eaten with food which will take longer than smoking it would.
It can also provide different effects from traditional marijuana buds because this type of concentrate contains higher levels of THC on average (depending on how it was extracted).
Sometimes people refer to full-extract oils as “Rick Simpson Oil” or “RSO”. This oil is named after Rick Simpson, who used cannabis extract as a cure for his cancer.
What Are the Benefits of Using THC Pills
There are many benefits to using THC pills, including dosage control, swallowing fewer pills, reducing side effects from taking too high of a dosage, and prevention against rapidly aging when swallowing cannabis resin.
But other benefits exist, of course.
Potent capsules can help with various issues, including digestive system problems. But it’s still crucial to remain aware of how potent the good stuff actually is.
How to Make Cannabis Capsules at Home
The most common form of medical cannabis consumption in America is capsules. Therefore, it should come as no surprise that so many people are looking for recipes to make cannabis capsules at home.
This cannabis caps tutorial will focus on a cannabis pill recipe using extra virgin coconut oil or canola oil.

Make Cannabis Capsules Using Extra Virgin Coconut Oil (Or Canola Oil)
What you’ll need:
- 5.5 grams of cannabis buds
- 60ml extra virgin coconut oil (or canola oil)
- Empty “00” size gelatin capsules (you can buy these at most health stores)
- Capsule filling machine
- Small glass bowl or glass jar
- Crock-pot, or slow-cooker, or cooking pot
- Grinder or food processor
- Cheesecloth
- Syringe
- Baking sheet
- 2 glass bowls
- Aluminum foil
- Some rubber bands
Instructions
- Preheat your oven at 225F.
- Put aluminum foil on the baking sheet.
- Break up cannabis buds and put them on a baking tray. Make sure they’re spread evenly across the baking tray to avoid too much heat on any one bud.
- To decarboxylate cannabis, cook the cannabis in an oven at 225F for an hour.
- Grind the decarboxylated cannabis into a fine powder.
- Mix fine powder cannabis with 60ml of coconut oil (or canola oil) in a crock-pot.
- Cook on low heat for about 3 hours.
- Stir mixture together every one hour.
- Once done, let the mixture cool down for 15 mins.
- set up your capsule filling machine
- Place the cheesecloth over a small glass bowl and use a rubber band to hold the cheesecloth in place.
- Pour the oil mixture from the cooking pot onto the cheesecloth.
- Untie the rubber band, bundle up the bud, and squeeze out all the oil from the cheesecloth.
- Fill capsules by using the syringe to fill the caps one at a time (or you can fill capsules by hand).
- Close the capsules.
- The finished caps can be stored in a cool, dry area (recommended you store them in a refrigerator) for three months without losing strength. Keep in mind that your cannabis capsules may change color due to the coconut oil solidifying.
Remember that making your own capsules is not an exact science, and there are plenty of different ways to make your own canna caps.

THC Cannabis Capsules with Canola Oil
Canola Oil is a very common edible grade seed oil. You can find this at most health food stores as well, so don’t worry about having a hard time finding it if you couldn’t already get it before starting the capsule recipe.
This is used primarily because it is edible for people, and it won’t ruin the oil.
THC Cannabis Capsules with Coconut Oil
Coconut oil can be used instead of using Canola oil. It’s suggested to use coconut oil over other oils because in high temperatures (such as cooking or heating), it does not break down as easily, unlike some other oils such as olive oil.
So, therefore, cooking/heating it under high temperatures for an extended period of time will not break down the THC and can make your end result more potent.

THC Pills with Decarboxylated Cannabis Flower
This process of making THC pills is very easy. All you have to do is fill the gelatin capsules with decarboxylated cannabis flower using the instructions above.
Should I Decarboxylate Cannabis for Capsules
Decarboxylating cannabis is a process of removing the carboxylic acid groups and activating the THC for better absorption in your body.
Decarboxylation happens to dried and cured marijuana buds when they are heated. As plant material dries, this is your plant’s natural process of converting THCA to THC.
The activated form of THC, known as THC-A, will be converted into THC upon ingestion.
Decarboxylation is important because it has been shown that unheated cannabis, like that in tinctures and edibles, has only about 10% bioavailability of THC-A to THC.
This is because much of the THC-A gets broken down by stomach acids before reaching its destination in the bloodstream.
This leaves 90% of the THC in its inactive form, which won’t give you those desired medicinal effects.
The process of decarboxylation is easy to do, and it only requires a little bit of heat to get activated THC out of your buds for higher bioavailability.

Is a Capsule Filling Machine Necessary?
We recommend most people make their cannabis capsules by hand. It is the most cost-effective and provides the best quality for what you are looking for. A machine can fill any size or shape capsules desired.
If you want to use a machine, we recommend using one that has two components.
The first part is used to load the blanks (empty capsules) onto the device and place them in a row/line on the device in preparation for filling.
The second part of the capsule filling machine is used to fill each blank with whatever product they desire (like cannabis).
This type of machine is ideal for filling capsules. And while it’s not essential, it will make your life easier if you’re filling many capsules.
Ultimately, if you don’t use a machine, you’ll be stuck filling them by hand.
If you don’t want to buy a machine, a syringe should work for filling your capsules.

What is the Shelf Life of Cannabis Capsules?
The shelf life of canna caps has been shown to be reliable for up to 3 months with no loss of potency.
The stability of cannabis capsules will depend on the storage temperature in which they are stored. With this being the case, it’s important to keep them in a cool, dry area such as the refrigerator when possible.

Dosage and THC Capsules
If you find yourself unable to control your dosage or get the desired effect you’re looking for with one capsule, try experimenting.
Knowing how much oil you should use to create your capsules with a nice concentration means testing by trial and error. Unless you have the exact data of the bud you’re using, you’re not going to know how many cannabinoids your capsule holds.
However, if you have the right information, you’ll be able to properly dose your capsules.
What Is the Toxicity of Cannabis in Capsules/Canna Caps
The cannabis coconut oil stated in this article is for external use only. Do not ingest it, and do not let children ingest it. It’s advisable to read generally about the toxicity of cannabis products before ingesting them.
Additional Advice
Since it will take some time for you to get everything warmed up and ready, we suggest doing it the night before cooking the THC oil capsules or the morning of, and then it will be ready by nighttime.
Also, another way to be able to make your THC oil capsules is using a slow cooker. It’s the safest and easiest way, in my opinion.
So. if you’re not looking for any complications, then I suggest getting a slow cooker and going that route instead.

Cannabis Dose in THC Pills
The best dose of cannabis is the one that works for your particular condition and needs.
It’s a good idea to start with a low dose, particularly if you’re not an experienced user or it’s been some time since you last used marijuana-based products.
If you are a new user, take just a small amount of THC pills to test how your body reacts.
Over time, including at least an hour between every two doses, you can gradually increase the number of THC pills taken until you find the dosage that works best for you.
For most people, it’s recommended to start with 1 mg of THC per capsule. However, consume cannabis gradually and remember that the first effects are felt within a half hour and last from 4-8 hours.
You may experience some mild side effects like dry mouth and dry eyes, especially with higher doses.
Be sure to drink plenty of water if you are experiencing these “dry” symptoms. Some people may also feel drowsy, dizzy, or confused.
The longer you take the THC pills (up to a week), the more pronounced and less frequent side effects become.
Some individuals experience feelings of restlessness, mild nausea, or changes in appetite – all of which can be significantly reduced if cannabis is taken with food.
Concluding on How to Make THC Capsules
When making your own cannabis capsules it’s important that you’re aware the dosage can vary depending on the potency of the THC pills.
If you’re not sure how strong your THC pills are, start with half a dose and take more if necessary. Always wait at least 1 hour before taking another dose to make sure the effects have worn off properly.
If you want to try THC capsules, it’s important that you start with a small dose and gradually increase the amount of cannabis in each capsule.
You should also be sure to drink plenty of water if your body is experiencing any “dry” symptoms like dry mouth or eyes.
If all else fails, there are other options for making canna caps, such as using a slow cooker or mixing coconut oil into empty capsules before filling them up.
Remember that THC pills have been shown to last three months without losing potency, so they’re perfect for long-term storage and stability!
I would recommend caution when increasing the dosage of marijuana; it’s always best to start with a low dose and see how it affects you.
I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and enjoy making your own cannabis coconut oil. If you are looking for a stronger dose of THC, you can either add more THC capsules or take the same amount in smaller doses.
