Can vaping make you age faster? We asked a dermatologist to weigh in.
“There’s no definitive answer,” says Dr. Maryam Zamani, M.D., F.A.A.D., a London-based dermatologist and author of The Ageless Solution. “Smoking, in general, is one of the worst things you can do for your skin because it constricts blood vessels and decreases oxygen and nutrient flow to your skin cells. This can lead to premature wrinkles, sagging skin, and a dull, yellowish complexion.”
While there isn’t definitive proof that vaping specifically causes premature aging, Zamani says that the act of inhaling vaporized e-liquid particles can irritate the lungs and cause inflammation. “This can lead to oxidative stress and damage to your skin cells, which can speed up the aging process,” she explains.

Does Vaping Cause Acne?
Acne is caused by a variety of factors, including hormones, bacteria, and sebum production. Some people believe that vaping can cause acne because of the propylene glycol (PG) and vegetable glycerin (VG) in e-liquid. “These ingredients can be irritating to the skin and may cause inflammation,” says Zamani. “However, there is no scientific evidence to support the claim that vaping causes acne.” There are ways you can avoid acne while vaping, though. “Make sure you clean your face before you vape and avoid touching your face while you’re vaping,” Zamani advises.
Does Vaping Destroy Collagen?
Vaping can destroy your collagen because of the high heat that is created when you vaporize your e-liquid. This high heat can break down the collagen fibers in your skin, which leads to wrinkles and puffiness.
So, if you’re worried about premature aging, it’s best to err on the side of caution and avoid vaping altogether. If you do vape, be sure to practice good skincare. This means using sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher, drinking plenty of water, and getting enough sleep.

FAQ’s on Vaping and Aging
Does vaping affect your looks?
Commons signs to see if vaping is affecting your looks are wrinkles, sagging skin, and a dull complexion. Although vaping is a fairly new activity, and as such, there is not much information out there about the long-term effects it has on your looks. However, some experts believe that vaping could cause premature aging. This is because the harmful heat from vaping can break down collagen fibers in your skin. Collagen is important for keeping your skin looking plump and youthful.
Does quitting vaping improve skin?
Your skin will improve if you quit vaping because you will no longer be exposing it to the harmful chemicals in e-liquid. These chemicals can cause inflammation and damage your skin cells, leading to premature aging.
How long does it take for skin to heal after quitting vaping?
Your skin will start to heal as soon as you stop exposing it to the harmful chemicals in e-liquid. You can start to see a difference in your skin within a few weeks, and your skin will continue to improve the longer you stay away from vaping. Your body will naturally produce new collagen to replace the collagen that was damaged by vaping. You can help speed up this process by using skincare products that contain ingredients like retinol and vitamin C.
How can I protect my skin from the effects of vaping?
If you must vape, there are some things you can do to protect your skin from the harmful effects of vaping. First, be sure to practice good skincare. This means using sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher, drinking plenty of water, and getting enough sleep.
You should also try to avoid vaping when your skin is dry or irritated. If you do vape, be sure to wash your face afterward and apply a moisturizer to help soothe your skin.
